EAA Chapter 87 Minutes of Meeting Dated April 12, 2016 Submitted by Richard DeVito – Secretary
The April meeting was held at Brunswick Executive Airport. President Charlie Gabelmann called the meeting to order at 1930.
1. SECRETARIES REPORT
The minutes of the February meeting were approved as posted on the chapter web site.
2. TREASURER’S REPORT
This report was waived due to the absence of the Treasurer.
3. OLD BUSINESS
Charlie Gabelmann reported that other Maine chapters have completed the background checks required by national for youth programs. Both Steve Welch (Chapter 1210) and Duke Tomin (Chapter 1434) have complied and see no issues with the requirement. Many members of our chapter continue to question this requirement.
Dj Merrill reported on what other chapters have done for fund raising. Three successful ideas from an EAA forum included asking for donations, a catered sit down dinner with a live band and silent auction, and a pancake breakfast with a raffle. Other ideas listed a fly in with lunch, plane washes, auctions, workshops, and selling food. Members/guests at the meeting commented that a pancake breakfast generates good income, and suggested doing a 50/50 raffle. This issue will be discussed again at future meetings.
Charlie Gabelmann reported that we need to decide if we want to participate in selling excess Owl’s Head Museum aviation parts for a share of the proceeds. There was general interest but concerns as to liabilities. Charlie will try to get an inventory of the parts.
4. NEW BUSINESS
