EAA Chapter 87

Minutes of Meeting Dated October 9, 2012 Submitted by Richard DeVito – Secretary

The October meeting was held at Brunswick Executive Airport. President Charlie Gabelmann called the meeting to order at 1930.

1. SECRETARIES REPORT

The Secretaries report was not read since it was previously published on the chapter web site. It was accepted as published.

2. TREASURER’S REPORT

Tom Muller reported that the bank balance on 9/30/12 was $6,253.53. He also stated that the chapter currently has 43 members. The report was accepted as submitted

3. YOUNG EAGLES

Russell Keith reported that the Young Eagles event at Wiscasset on Oct 6th went well with 24 kids flown by 6 pilots.

4. NOMINATION OF OFFICERS

5. BRUNSWICK FLY IN

Charlie Gabelmann questioned MRRA on plans for a Brunswick Fly In for 2013. Marty McMann stated that is was unlikely that MRRA could support both an Air Show and a Fly In, but had no objection to the chapter hosting a grass roots Fly In at Brunswick. This will be discussed further in follow on meetings.

6. DECEMBER MEETING AND CHRISTMAS PARTY

Members confirmed that we will hold the December meeting and Christmas party on Saturday December 8 at Brunswick Executive Airport. Marty McMann of MRRA, reminded the chapter that Brunswick Fire regulations limit all indoor gatherings at the airport to 49 persons.

7. GENERAL

Lisa Reese reported that the Wiscasset Air Show by the Texas Legends was great. The Legends departed Wiscasset for Texas on Monday the 8th with an initial stop in Sanford, and Lisa flew with them on the first leg in a P-51. She also advised that the MAA web site is up and running.

8. PROGRAM

Hazen Searway, our ACE Camp sponsorship for 2012 related his experiences to the membership.

First day activities consisted of a stay at Camp Roosevelt and a flight in a Beechcraft Baron out of Old Town Airport.

Day 2 and 3 had visits to Bangor International Airport, an FBO, a gas tank manufacturer, the Air and Space Museum, the shuttle challenger Mock up, the National Guard, and a fire suppression demo. Hazen rode in the KC-135 and a Blackhawk later in the week.

Day 4 was a visit to the Control Tower, a demonstration of a spacial disorientation chair, and an helicopter water drop.

Day 5 was sea plane day, with all students getting a ride.

Hazen received the Mark Haskell Memorial award and an FAA certificate of ACE Camp attendance . He enjoyed the ACE Camp, and has aspirations to be an aeronautical engineer.

9. ADJOURNMENT

The meeting was adjourned at 2100.

The next meeting will be held at Brunswick Executive Airport in Hangar 6 on November 13 starting at 1930 hours. We will vote in the slate of officers for 2013, and all are members are encouraged to attend.
