EAA Chapter 87 Minutes of Meeting Dated September 9, 2014 Submitted by Richard DeVito – Secretary
The September meeting was held at Brunswick Executive Airport. President Charlie Gabelmann called the meeting to order at 1930.
1. SECRETARIES REPORT
The August meeting consisted of our annual outing to Mark Hayden’s Emmet field, and no business was conducted
2. TREASURER’S REPORT
Tom Muller reported that the bank balance on 08/31/14 was $5871.40, with 42 members in the chapter. Tom reported that three members had not renewed as yet. The report was accepted as submitted.
3. OLD BUSINESS
Charlie Gabelmann reported that he now has the stickers with the EAA 87 logo available for distribution. After a short discussion, the members voted to sell the stickers for $1.00 to recoup costs, and many were purchased at the meeting.
Everett moved that we give Grady Sharpe some recognition as a founding member of the chapter and the motion was seconded and passed. Everett will visit Accolades in Brunswick to look into a plaque for Grady.
Tom Muller suggested a sit down dinner for Grady and his wife Aggie along with other founding members that might be located. There was full agreement from the members, and Mark Hayden agreed to contact Grady in that regard. A date sometime after October 14 was suggested.
MARK HAYDEN’S FLY IN
Mark reported that the fly in this year was well attended with six aircraft present. They included a Sea Ray, a Glastar, a Biplane, a RV-9A, and two Tailorcraft.
It was reported that Steve Williams and Lisa Reece won the bomb drop contest this year with a drop within five feet of the target.
4. NEW BUSINESS
It was reported that the chapter scales are at the home of a Glastar owner that recently used the scales to weigh his aircraft. He is ready to return them, but has been unable to contact Leo Leclair. Tom Muller will try to get the scales back to the chapter.
Charlie Gablemann reminded members that we will nominate the chapter officers for 2015 at the October meeting. In a discussion on the annual Christmas party/meeting, Charlie and Dj Merrill thought we might hold it at the MRRA offices, and they will investigate further.
Tom Fisher moved that we provide money to Mark Hayden to help defray the costs of the tent and porta potty for the August Fly in. The motion was seconded and approved to provide $295 to cover the costs.
The airport manager at Lewiston Auburn would like chapter 87 participation for Auburn Airport Days. It was reported that the airport restaurant has not yet reopened. No decision was made by the chapter.
There was some discussion of a possible fly in with a yellow cub owner in Rockland. No decision was made by the chapter.
Wild Oats is now open for lunch from 1100 to 1600 hours at Brunswick Executive airport.
Don Card reported he has now flown 25 hours in his Zenith 750 with no significant issues.
Jerry Crute reported he is taking aerial photos of islands for the Maine Island Trails Association.
The meeting was adjourned at 2100.
The October meeting will be held in the FBO offices at Brunswick Executive Airport on Tuesday October 14, 2014 starting at 1930 hours.
